I am starting this blog as a place to harness my thoughts and inspirations and reference for all of the work in mathematics education that is being done. I firmly believe that all students can do math and at high levels. I believe that classroom instructors are the heart behind this student achievement and hope this blog can be a source for teachers. I want to give thanks to a few people for the inspiration behind a blog. My cousin Aaron Pompei, thank you for the conversation around focusing social media as a source for teachers or parents. Ashley Taplin, thank you for showcasing all of your blogs and allowing us to read and grow from them. To all the students that I had as a classroom teacher for allowing me to hone my practice and inspiring me daily. All of my former colleagues for always encouraging me, having professional conversations and sharing ideas, and providing me opportunities to grow as an educator. Lastly, thank you to my husband and family for listening to my teacher talk, encouraging me to further my career and follow my passion.
A little bit about me, I am Rachel and am currently a Secondary Math Specialist for a school district in San Antonio Texas. Texas has been home to be for a little over three years now since I was born and raised in Connecticut. This is my eighth year in education. I Spent seven years as a high school math teacher and am still in year one as a specialist. If you have not done the math yet, four of those years were teaching in Wallingford Public Schools in Connecticut. I grew up around math teachers in my family and always dreamed of being a teacher when I was young. I received my Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics from Central Connecticut State University and my Master’s degree in Education Specializing in secondary mathematics from the University of Bridgeport.
I look forward to sharing my professional experiences, new learnings, and ideas as well as resources with you!
